Raising Resilient Children – 0-6years of age

Tuesday March 13th 2018 – Time: 9:30am – 11:00 am

One of the most important tasks of parenthood is helping children learn to deal with their emotions.  All children experience periods of stress in their lives and need the emotional skills to deal with it.  Children’s emotional resilience or ability to cope with their feelings is important to their long–term happiness, wellbeing and success in life.  Emotional resilience involves six key skills recognizing and accepting feelings, expressing feelings appropriately, having a positive outlook, developing effective ways of coping being able to deal with negative feelings and being able to manage stressful life events.  This tip sheet provides some ideas on how to help children become emotionally resilient.

Separation Problems – (Preschoolers) 3years to 5years of age

All children have to learn to cope with temporary separations from their parents.  Learning to be apart can be difficult for parents and children.  However, parents need time to themselves occasionally and children benefit from spending time with other people.  Shyness around new people and anxiety about separate from parents is common in preschoolers.  This tip sheet gives you some suggestions to help you teach your preschooler to mix with others and calmly separate from you.

Independent Eating – (Toddlers) 18months -2.5 years of age

Tuesday March 27th 2018 – Time: 9:30am – 11:00 am

Family meals can be an enjoyable social event. Mealtimes with a toddler can be busy and chaotic while they are learning how to eat independently.  This tip sheet gives some suggestions to help you encourage your toddler to eat with a spoon, sit at the table with others and eat a variety of foods.
