Weekly Update: January 23-27, 2023

Today is the beginning of the Lunar New Year 2023, beginning the Year of the Rabbit. The Lunar New Year as a celebration is observed by numerous cultures, and is also often referred to as “Chinese New Year” because it is a traditional festival in China. This festival means the beginning of spring and the arrival of the new year.

Almighty and merciful God,

We thank You for all Your graces and protections
given to us in the past year as well as
Your blessing to celebrate the new year.
Please teach us to cherish the beautiful moments
united as family and to be in communion with one another
and in harmony through sincere love.
As the new year begins, we ask for your help
to get rid of all our bad habits,
set new goals and lead us each step into the new year.
We pray this in the name of Jesus.

Amen.

EQAO

Our school is pleased to provide you with achievement highlights of our results on the provincial EQAO Test written last spring.  Staff will be reviewing our detailed EQAO results and other school assessment data, in order to build on our strengths and address areas requiring improvement.  Students who participated in the assessment received their individual results before Christmas.  For additional information about this and other province-wide assessments, please visit https://www.eqao.com/.

It is important to note that the Grade 3 and 6 EQAO results reflect the results for all students who participated in-person and met or exceeded the provincial expectations. It does not include students who provided no data due to absence, medical reasons, etc. Students enrolled in remote-learning classrooms were excluded from participating in the EQAO assessments unless they attended the assessment in-person.

Due to several contextual differences including the new Ontario curriculum, the EQAO assessments administered online for the first time in the 2021-2022 school year serve as a new baseline for student achievement in the province of Ontario. As a result of these differences, there is no meaningful comparison of these results from previous administrations of the provincial assessments.

Closing Prayer

During the month of January, we conclude with our prayer for unity.

God of harmony and unity,
You want us all to work together to build Your kingdom.
May our ears hear Your voice clearly
May our eyes see Your beauty in all
May our understanding break down walls of fear and prejudice.
May we make our school and community
a place of friendship, a place of belonging,
a place of welcome,
where everyone feels safe.
where everyone has a place
where all are united in You, dear God.

Amen.

St. Nicholas, pray for us.

Wishing you a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

C. Quadrini, Principal
